Counseling with Julie

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with an M.A. in Professional Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis and certificate in Eating Disorders from Lewis & Clark College. I specialize in weight and body image-related worries as well as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life-transitions. I emphasize Health at Every Size®, size inclusivity, Intuitive Eating, mindfulness based practices, body-mind connection, liberation framework, Internal Family Systems, EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy®.  I utilize a social justice and intersectional mental health approach and strive to create a space that is inclusive, compassionate, and safe.

Acknowleding my privilege:

  • I recognize my own thin-white privilege and acknowledge that my body affords itself cultural benefits that I did not earn. It is my mission to hold space for all bodies and to listen and give space for your bodies story.

  • I strive to create safe space for ALL people regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender, size, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, and abilities.

  • I utilize a liberation framework and constantly work to challenge systemic oppression in my personal and professional life

Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating

I specialize in Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating and have a certificate in ED's from Lewis and Clark College.  I offer two years of experience in PHP and IOP level of care as the lead therapist at the Eating Disorder Center of Portland which allowed me to work with an array of eating disorder symptoms. I worked with Be Nourished from 2012 to 2019 and have been trained under Hilary Kinavey and Dana Sturtevant surrounding Health at Every Size® (now known as Center for Body Trust®), Intuitive Eating and body image related issues. In addition, I have been a yoga instructor for 11 years and have studied Body-Mind Centering® with Amy Matthews. I emphasize that working with a professional treatment team that specializes in eating disorders or disordered eating is essential to healing.

Somatic Therapy and Trauma Therapy

I am a Level 2 Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, EMDR trained therapist and am Level 1 trained Internal Family Systems therapist. I draw from somatic therapies, neuroscience, attachment theory, and cognitive approaches, as well as from the Hakomi Method. Somatic therapy is on the forefront of trauma therapy and is rich in body awareness, movement interventions, parts work and attachment healing. In addition to trauma, it is effective in working with eating disorders and body image.

My passion is working with internal parts and utilizing theories of Internal Family Systems, Structural Dissociation model and Janina Fisher’s work to explore the core Self to help us heal our wounded internal system. I have spent years studying somatic therapy modalities and am passionate about using somatics to heal inter-generational, cultural and familial trauma.
